Gazza eyes Leeds switch
Paul Gascoigne
Gascoigne is keen to get back playing
Paul Gascoigne has revealed his desire to team up with former England boss Terry Venables at Leeds.

Gascoigne has not played professional football since a brief spell with First Division Burnley last season.

But the 35-year-old is desperate to play for just one more club before bowing out of the sport, with Leeds topping his wish list.

He told the Sun newspaper: "I could do a job for Terry. He will turn that club round come January. I have got a lot of time and respect for Terry.

"He is a clever bloke in football terms. I would do anything for him. I always call him my second dad."

I'm desperate to get back and prove I can still do it

Gascoigne first teamed up with Venables as a player at Tottenham before becoming a regular feature in Venables' England plans.

The midfielder has been linked with a number of different clubs this season but all potential deals have fallen through, including a proposed switch to Gillingham earlier this month.

Despite a failure to find a club, Gascoigne, capped 57 times by England, is confident of a new year move.

"I've been training hard and I am the fittest I have been in three years," he told Century FM. "But I'm sick of training on my own. I want a club.

"I'm desperate to get back and prove I can still do it. I don't want any presents on the 25th. I just need to get back on that field because I am missing it a hell of a lot.

"I've spoken to a couple of agents and it's just a matter of time. Whoever signs me, I won't let them down.

"I'd love a Premiership or First Division club to take me on. I still have options abroad but I'm looking to stay in this country for my kids - I want to see more of them."
