| Saturday, 9 November, 2002, 16:58 GMT Everton on target again ![]() Tomasz Radzinski celebrates his goal Everton 1-0 Charlton Everton set a new club record of four consecutive Premiership wins after a first-half goal by Tomasz Radzinski sealed the three points. The Toffees had never won four games in a row since the inception of the Premiership.
Everton manager David Moyes opted to leave teenage star Wayne Rooney on the bench with Joseph Yobo, Mark Pembridge and Thomas Gravesen all recalled. Gravesen played a key role in the goal when he capitalised on a mistake by Robbie Mustoe to send Radzinski away with a superb through ball.
The Canada international then powered into the area and drilled in a right-foot shot into the right-hand corner of the approaching Dean Kiely's net for his fourth of the season. Everton should have had the lead much earlier but they had a number of penalty appeals turned down by referee Rob Styles.
Moments later, Claus Jensen appeared to be clipped in the area by Tony Hibbert, but again Styles waved away the appeals. After their opener, Everton controlled much of the game as they chased the crucial second goal. Hibbert went close with a 30-yard shot which was parried by Dean Kiely while Radzinski first went narrowly over the bar and then shot narrowly wide. Hibbert showed his defensive qualities when he was forced to clear Mark Fish's goalbound header off the line. The home side brought on teenage star Wayne Rooney with 19 minutes to go in place of Radzinski. Late on, Scott Parker almost made Everton pay when he ran 50 yards towards goal. But his shot was off target and Everton managed to hang on to continue their progress up the Premiership table.
