Leeds United have signed Swedish international defender Teddy Lucic on loan from AIK Solna for the rest of this season.

The 29-year-old played in all of Sweden's World Cup campaign, including the 1-1 draw against England when Leeds manager Terry Venables was working as a television pundit.

Lucic, who has played for IFK Gothenburg and also had a spell with Bologna in Serie A from 1998-99, has won 47 caps for Sweden.

Venables had been linked with a string of defenders since the �30m sale of Rio Ferdinand to Manchester United, including Aston Villa's Alpay and Middlesbrough's Gareth Southgate.

Leeds' coffers were further swelled this week when they sold striker Robbie Keane to Tottenham for �7m.
