| Gambia's record win ![]() Jatto Ceesay scored two of Gambia's six goals Group 8: Gambia 6-0 Lesotho Gambia have got off to a flying start in their qualification battle for Tunisia 2004 with the demolition of Lesotho in Banjul on Sunday. Aziz Corr Nyang, who plays in Sweden, and the Dutch-based Jatto Ceesay both scored twice for the Gambia. It is Gambia's biggest-ever international victory and led to wild celebrations across the country. It puts the tiny nation at the top of the group on goal difference, and sets up a tense encounter against neighbours Senegal in the next qualifying round in March. The Lions, who performed such heroics at the World Cup, were only able to scrape a 1-0 win over Lesotho in the opening round in Maseru last month. The runaway victory in Banjul, engineered by Gambia's band of overseas-based professionals, was the most one-sided match of the weekend. Four-times Nations Cup champions Ghana, who played Lesotho in a friendly match in Accra last Tuesday, managed only a 2-1 win. |
