| Ugandans leave Tanzania cold ![]() Coach Madadi will have no chance to experiment Tanzania will go into Saturday's African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sudan without a warm-up under their belts after Uganda pulled out of a friendly. Football Association of Tanzania (FAT) secretary general Michael Wambura said the match against Uganda was cancelled after the Cranes suffered an eleventh-hour change of mind.
Wambura said: "We had requested them for a friendly, wich they accepted. The cancellation of the friendly means coach Salum Madadi will not be able to experiment with his combination of young and old players. Tanzania went into their Nations Cup qualifier against Benin without the benefit of a warm-up match and paid the price with a 4-0 defeat. That setback prompted Madadi to recall Taifa Stars of the 1990s to add some experience to his youthful side. Meanwhile, the FAT has invited former players and interested fans to a symposium to discuss ways of restoring Tanzania's lost football glory. Those invited include former Taifa Stars inspirational leader Leodgar Tenga, who resigned as National Sports Council vice chairman last year. Tenga quit in protest after Fifa reinstated FAT chairman Muhidini Ndolanga. Football followers in Tanzania primarily blame FAT for the collapse of the game, but also point the finger at the government for not providing funds. Tanzanian football fans are angry at what they see as a squandered opportunity of making it to the 2004 Tunisia finals when the FAT sacked Castle Cup winning coach Burkhard Pape and disbanded the team. | Top Cup of Nations stories now: Links to more Cup of Nations stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
