| Sarr swings axe on Senegal ![]() Ndiaye denied rumours he'd quit international football Interim Senegal coach Ablaye Sarr has made several changes to the squad he inherited from Bruno Metsu. Six Lions from the World Cup adventure have been left out of the 19-man squad for the 8 Septmber Nations Cup qualifier away to Lesotho. Apart from veteran striker Amara Traore, who has retired from international football, five World Cup Lions have the right to feel very disappointed. Pape Sarr, Makhtar Ndiaye and Souleymane Camara have hardly played this season for their French clubs, so their eviction is only a minor surprise. Similarly Kalidou CIssokho, who has never played in a full international, cannot be too shocked at his omission. But Sylvain Ndiaye has more grounds for complaint: the Lille midfielder has had a fine start to the season, and has put behind him the injury that caused him to miss much of the World Cup. Rumours had been circulating that Ndiaye had quit international football, but when BBC Sport Online contacted him Ndiaye denied those, and expressed his surprise at being left out. Adama Sarr and Mamadou Niang will both be happier than Ndiaye - both have been recalled to the Lions squad after narrowly missing out on the World Cup. Senegal's game against Lesotho will be the Lions' first since the dramatic Golden Goal defeat to Turkey in the World Cup quarter-finals - and the first in charge for Ablaye Sarr since Bruno Metsu jumped ship. But despite the changes Sarr has made to the group, the starting line-up is likely to be similar to that deployed so successfully by Metsu. Squad: Goalkeepers: Tony Sylva (Monaco), Omar Diallo (Khourigba, Morocco) |
