The poll was conducted by the country's leading Arabic sport publication Al Haddaf. The honour given to the Algerian midfielder was due to his outstanding performance at Manchester City. Benarbia's consistent form played a key role in the club's promotion from the First Division to the Premiership, which earned him their 'player of the season' award.
