| The shadow of Kanu ![]() Christopher Kanu (left) with his elder brother, Nwankwo Christopher Kanu is on the hunt for a new club after Ajax Amsterdam decided not to renew his contract. The less famous - and certainly less tall - brother of Nigeria and Arsenal striker Nwankwo, knows that his future depends on finding a high profile team. "My manager is assuring me that I don't have to worry and that he is going to find something good," Kanu told BBC Sport Online. "I know that whatever club I go to, I will fight hard for a shirt and work to get a place in the national team again," he added. Kanu represented his country in some of Nigeria's World Cup qualifiers, and despite making the trip to Korea and Japan, was left out of the final squad of 23. "It was frustrating and painful - when you're almost there, but don't quite make it," he said. "I know how to play football, and now that I've seen everything and got more experience I'm going to fight hard to be a part of the next World Cup." Making his name Kanu added that he is tired of the comparisons with his brother, who has achieved so much with Nigeria and Arsenal. "People think that because I've got the name Kanu I'm going to do the same magic that he always does," he sighed. "But I'm not the same player that he is - I'm a midfielder and can play a defensive role as well. "He has made a name already, and no-one is going to take that away. "My name is Christopher Kanu, and I'm doing my own job and playing my own role." Christopher says Nwankwo's great height - he is six feet six inches - is his major advantage. "Sometimes people don't recognise us as brothers. He's tall and I'm not so tall. I'm not sure how he got that kind of height - there's no-one in the family who's as tall as that." But he says that despite having such an illustrious brother, he is going to concentrate on his own future and earning a permanent place in Nigeria's national team. "That's what I'm aiming for," he said. "First I have to think about my club side because when you're playing well you get invited to the national team. "I'm going to keep on trying to reach the Nations Cup and World Cup." | See also: 12 Jun 02 | Nigeria 12 Jun 02 | Nigeria 14 Jul 02 | Africa Top Africans abroad stories now: Links to more Africans abroad stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
