Coly brands Diouf 'crazy'
Ferdinand Coly
Coly says there is no chance of a strike

Ferdinand Coly has rejected El Hadji Diouf's call to boycott the national team, saying the plan is ridiculous.

Diouf had threatened that he and his team mates would not play against Lesotho on 8 September in the African Nations Cup qualifier if Bruno Metsu was not reinstated as Lions coach, but Coly told BBC Sport Online that Diouf's idea never got off the ground.

The Senegalese players had a meeting with Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) President Malick Sy and new coach Ablaye Sarr in Paris in which both the boycott and Bruno Metsu's departure were brought up.

Coly believes Diouf's idea is a non-starter.

"He is crazy," Coly told BBC Sport Online.

"It is not possible. All the players are ok to go to Lesotho."

Those players will be lead by Metsu's former assistant Sarr, and Coly believes the man who was also Peter Schnittger's number two when the German was Lions coach could finally get the job on a full time basis.

"All the players wanted Bruno to stay, but he has made a choice and we have to accept he has gone.

"Ablaye is a good coach and I think a Senegalese coach can do it.

"He should be given a chance."

However, Sarr's spell as Senegal boss is likely to be only a short one: the FSF has already announced it will appoint a European coach.

Whoever is named as full-time boss can now be confident that he will have a full complement of internationals to choose from - whatever Diouf may have to say on the matter.
