| Monday, 23 December, 2002, 15:55 GMT Stevens agrees new deal
The 26-year-old was awarded his county cap this year and was chosen to spend the winter at the National Academy in Adelaide. Stevens also enjoyed a taste of Test cricket when he acted as substitute fielder during one of the Ashes Tests. Leicestershire general manager Kevin Hill said: "We are delighted that Darren has committed himself to the club for a further two years. "He is one of the most exciting young batting talents in the game and has a big part to play in our future." The Leicestershire playing staff has undergone a major upheaval since the end of the 2002 season. Former skipper Vince Wells and batsman Iain Sutcliffe have left the club, while six new players have arrived including spinner Jeremy Snape, wicket-keeper Paul Nixon and seam bowler David Masters. |
