McCague endured a torrid time for England
Former England fast bowler Martin McCague has been released by Kent after completing his benefit year.

McCague was raised in Australia, but qualified for England because he was born in Northern Ireland.

He featured in just three Tests, taking six wickets, but claimed 456 victims at an average of 27 in first-class cricket.

McCague has, however, suffered a number of injuries during his career and has appeared in less than 10 County Championship matches in the past three seasons.

This year he played in one solitary National League match for the Spitfires, conceding 83 runs from his 10 overs.

Kent are also releasing batsman Matthew Banes whilst James Golding and James Hockley have been told they can speak to other counties.

The latest releases come on the back of Paul Nixon's departure last week but the county say they are hoping to strengthen their squad in the coming weeks.

Matthew Fleming, meanwhile, has won the Walter Lawrence Trophy for the fastest hundred of the 2002 season for his 66-ball effort against Sri Lanka in April.

He is the sixth Kent player to receive the award, following Frank Woolley, Les Ames, Asif Iqbal, Alan Knott and Carl Hooper.
