Adam Hollioake snapped up his 200th wicket in first-class one-day cricket and Graham Thorpe hit a ton as Surrey Lions secured the runners-up spot with a 79-run win at The Oval.

The Gladiators were already assured of the Second Division title, but they were no match for Thorpe and Hollioake as the Lions pocketed �11,000 for finishing second.

Despite losing their first three wickets for 31, Surrey recovered to set an imposing total thanks to Thorpe's 105-ball 114 and his two decisive partnerships with Hollioake (38) and Jonathan Batty (30).

The Gladiators set off well in pursuit, openers Craig Spearman (37) and Jack Russell (31) putting on 68 for the first wicket.

But although Matt Windows (37), Alastair Bressington (22) and number 10 Jon Lewis (24) all chipped in, nobody in the Gladiators line-up went on with it.

Hollioake finished with four for 24 and his capture of Lewis - he took a return catch late on - saw him reach the 200-landmark.

Earlier, Mike Smith trapped opener Ali Brown lbw with the fourth ball of the day and then saw Mark Ramprakash nick one to Spearman at first slip for 11.

Smith grabbed his third wicket eight balls when opener Ian Ward played and missed at a straight one to leave Surrey wobbling.

Nad Shahid (17) was then adjudged leg before off paceman Lewis, but Hollioake - buoyed by his double ton in the Championship win over Leicestershire on Saturday - then picked up the pace.

Hollioake (38 off just 34 deliveries) shared in a decisive 82-run stand with Thorpe but he holed out to Windows at deep mid-wicket off strapping Australian Jo Angel, the overseas replacement for Ian Harvey.

Batty (30 off 41) struck only one boundary but ran his socks off between the wickets before he was stumped by 'keeper Russell off Ian Fisher.

Thorpe was the last man to fall, caught and bowled by Smith at the death.
