| Friday, 20 September, 2002, 17:28 GMT 18:28 UK Bears face tough task County Championship D1, Hove, day three of four: Warwickshire 293 & 103-3 v Sussex 352 & 341 Warwickshire have their work cut out if they are to clinch second place in the County Championship, on the final day against Sussex at Hove. With close rivals Kent having already won, the Bears know they must do the same. But a morning that saw the home tailenders allowed free reign, and an evening when three wickets fell in their chase for an unlikely 401 left Michael Powell's side far from well-placed.
Earlier Sussex, 166 for four overnight, and in deeper trouble at 212 for seven, managed to add 129 for their last three wickets. Kevin Innes hit 40 from 57 deliveries while Mark Davis again belied his status at number nine, striking 66, with six fours and two sixes as Warwickshire were driven to distraction. Dougie Brown took the last three wickets, but it could prove to have been too late.
