Middlesex made a winning start to the division two season as they accounted for undermanned Durham within three days at Riverside.

Not even an unbeaten century in the second innings by Martin Love could prevent Durham slipping to a 10-wicket defeat after being forced to follow on.

The morning session was washed out and the home side resumed play when showers abated 47 runs behind Middlesex on 140-5.

Only seven runs had been added when Aussie fast bowler Ashley Noffke, standing in for Abdur Razzaq, struck to remove Andrew Pratt for 49.

It ended Pratt's 87-run stand for the sixth wicket with Love, and Durham were plunged further into disarray when Noffke then bowled Anthony Davies for a duck.

Love did best for Durham with an unbeaten ton
It was Noffke's third and final wicket for the innings, capping a promising debut that yielded figures of six for 114.

Only Queenslander Love could offer any resistance, upping the scoring rate noticeably as he ran out of partners at the other end.

He had reached 101 when last man Steve Harmison was dismissed by Phil Tufnell, and his admirable knock included 15 boundaries.

Middlesex's job was made easier with the absence of starting XI pair Nicholas Phillips (cracked finger) and Simon Brown (muscle strain).

Andrew Strauss and Sven Koenig needed just four overs to make the 27 runs required for victory, earning Middlesex 18 championship points when they did.
