Tim Bresnan bowled well for England

England's youngsters came up short at St Peter's College despite another magnificent batting display by skipper Bilal Shafayat.

He hammered 82 off 67 balls, including two sixes and 10 fours, but Luke Wright and Liam Plunkett were the only other batsmen to make a significant contribution.

They were in with a chance of victory at 175 for seven, but Luke Davis dismissed Wright (42) and Plunkett (23) in quick succession to turn the match decisively in Australia's favour.

England were left to rue a total of 36 extras given away during the home side's innings, including 24 wides, qo of which were sent down by David Stiff.

His waywardness was in marked contrast to fellow Yorkshireman Tim Bresnan, who took three for 19 with the new ball.

Off-spinner Dan Broadbent was the other England bowler to shine, sending down a full 10-over stinit for figures of three for 33, but Matthew Harrison's solid 64 enabled Australia to pass 200.

England's top order batting was disappointing with none of the top four reaching double figures.

But Shafayat, who plays county cricket for Notts, followed up his century in the first Test by taking the attack to the home side before finally being caught off Michael Bright.

Leg-spinner Bright was the most successful Australian bowler, taking three for 41, and he wrapped up the match by having Nick Thornicroft stumped for seven.
