Aravinda de Silva is reported to have announced his retirement from Test cricket.

The Sri Lankan batting star had previously said that he would retire from all forms of international cricket following next year's World Cup.

But he has now told the country's chairman of selectors he no longer wishes to be considered for Test cricket, according to Sri Lankan newspaper the Daily News.

Sri Lanka are due to play two Tests and five one-day internationals in South Africa later this month.

De Silva has indicated that he is still available for selection for the one-day internationals.

De Silva, who is currently in Britain representing a Rest of the World team in this weekend's Power Cricket match in Cardiff, is Sri Lanka's leading run-scorer in Tests and one-day internationals.

In his 93-Test career he has scored 6,361 runs at an average of 42.97, with 20 centuries and 22 fifties.

He made a double century against Bangladesh in his last Test appearance, at the Saravanamuttu Stadium in July.
