Williams killed in car crash
Laurie Williams
Williams played in 15 one-day matches
West Indies and Jamaica all-rounder Laurie Williams has been killed in a car crash which also claimed the life of his brother.

Williams 33, and his 23-year-old brother Kevin Jennison died when a car being driven by Williams was in collision with a bus in the suburb of Portmore near Kingston, police said.

"I am shocked by his death," sports minister Portia Simpson Miller said in a written statement.

"I just cannot believe this. Laurie represented Jamaica and the West Indies well and at all times was committed to the game."

Williams, a medium pace bowler and lower order batsman, made his first class cricket debut for Jamaica against England in 1990.

He represented the West Indies in 15 one-day internationals, making his debut against New Zealand in 1996 and playing his last match against Australia in 2001.

His best one-day international bowling figures were three for 16 against New Zealand in 1996, with a highest score of 41.

Williams, who also played league cricket in England for several years, represented Jamaica in the Red Stripe Bowl just last week.

"The cricket fraternity will be saddened by his untimely and tragic death.

"He has been an important part of the success story of Jamaica and West Indies teams in the past," former Jamaica captain and West Indies player Maurice Foster said.
