| Thursday, 23 January, 2003, 17:06 GMT Woods plans training change ![]() Woods took a beating from Jones in September Coverage of Clinton Woods v Sergio Martin Beaz and David Haye v Saber Zairi will be shown on BBC1 from 2340 GMT on Friday. Clinton Woods plans to undertake a major overhaul of his training regime in an attempt to earn himself another world title shot. Woods takes on Argentina's Sergio Martin Beaz at Ponds Forge Leisure Centre in his home city of Sheffield on Friday night. And the light-heavyweight, whose last fight was a six-round loss to Roy Jones in September, will head to America after the non-title contest.
"The Jones fight has made me hungrier and given me more confidence to go and get the world title," said Woods. "I know I won't win a world title if I carry on training like I have been. I need to try new things and sacrifice all my luxuries at home. "I need to move to the next level and I've had some talks with American trainers. "There's nothing holding me back so I may as well go over the Atlantic and give it my best shot." Woods' manager Dennis Hobson has been to Germany to try to set up a summer meeting with unbeaten WBO champion Dariusz Michalczewski. But he may also earn a shot at the WBC crown if Jones vacates it to move permanently up to heavyweight. Disappointed "I don't want to be fighting for British titles again and want to keep pressing for the world title. I'm 30 now and I must give it my best shot," said Woods. "I know I will never fight anyone like Roy Jones again but I was disappointed because I know I could have done better." Woods admits he would rather not be fighting Beaz in Sheffield. "To be honest, I'd have preferred this fight to take place elsewhere because of the pressure of fighting in my home city," he said. "I don't think I'll look really brilliant and the Argentinian will make it a tough fight. "My downfall sometimes is that I tend to only just do enough to beat opponents and I must beat this guy convincingly." Cruiserweight David Haye will take on Frenchman Saber Zairi in his second professional fight on the undercard in Sheffield. |
