| Monday, 9 December, 2002, 19:45 GMT Klitschko not in Lewis' class ![]() McCline (left) showed very little Having watched Wladimir Klitschko beat Jameel McCline in 10 rounds at the weekend, I have come to two conclusions. The Ukrainian is definitely the second best heavyweight in the world. But he is also a million miles away from being as good as Lennox Lewis. I don't think his brother Vitali is any better either - both the Klitschkos are easy fights for Lewis. McCline made me mad - he was so negative. It was so annoying that he just seemed to quit after 10 rounds and it was disgusting to see. It seems that heavyweights do not work as hard as they used to for world title shots, because there are more governing bodies. Back in an era like the 1950s, you would never see a fighter do as little as McCline. Fighters of that time would go out on their shield and I would rather get knocked out than lose with a whimper. McCline wasn't getting bashed up that bad but he was thinking he was going to lose and he seemed to have had enough. One man who would never throw in the towel is Evander Holyfield, but I don't think he will beat Chris Byrd this Saturday for the IBF heavyweight title. I think Byrd has the wrong style for Holyfield - I think he will confuse him and win a points decision. Holyfield knows it will be difficult - he has said in many interviews that he would not fight Byrd because his style is very awkward. I was very impressed by Richard Williams at the weekend when he beat Paul Samuels. He has great skills, can punch, has good handspeed and he fought exceptionally well. So did Samuels, to his credit. As for Colin Dunne, I think he will come back from his points defeat to David Burke. He will probably get a rematch, but I think he will lose. Colin is probably 30% of what he used to be but he deserves to give himself one more crack at the top, before retiring gracefully. |
