Colin Jackson proved he is still a class athlete as he powered to first place in the 60m hurdles at the Norwich Union International in Glasgow .

The 35-year-old, who is retiring at the end of the indoor season, clocked the fastest time in the world this year.

After a faulty start, Jackson held his nerve, swiftly leaving the field behind him to finish in 7.55 secs.

The Welshman also became the most-capped male British athlete of all time as he wore the red and white vest for the 70th time.

"When they reminded me about that I thought am I really that old?" said Jackson.

"But it's a great feeling and I've enjoyed every moment of it."

The Kelvin Hall crowd also witnessed a new world indoor record as Russia's Svetlana Feofanova cleared 4.76m in the women's pole vault.

Triple jumper Jonathan Edwards could not quite roll back the years in his showdown with rival Christian Olsson.

The 36-year-old got off to a promising start with a jump of 16.97m but it was the Swede who once again stole Edward's fire.

Olsson's third round jump of 17.15m could not be bettered by Edwards who had to settle for second place.

But the part-time TV presenter was satisfied with his performance.

"I've not been thinking about athletics much recently so I'm really pleased," he said.

"To come here and jump so far is really encouraging."

Holmes is back to her best in the 1500m

World indoor champion Daniel Caines clocked the fastest 400m time in the world this year.

The 23-year-old ran 45.80 seconds to beat Great Britain team-mate Jamie Baulch.

Jason Gardener came out on top in a battle royal with Mark Lewis-Francis in the 60m.

A relaxed run by Gardener proved he is the in-form British sprinter of the season so far after he ran home in 6.52secs.

Britain's Marlon Devonish also stormed to victory in a competitive 200m race.

The European bronze medallist held off Sweden's Johan Wissman to cross the line first in 21.25 secs.

Kelly Holmes got a rare full indoor season off to a flying start with a comprehensive win in the 1500m

The Commonwealth champion's strength showed as she kicked for home on the final lap.

Holmes, who has been training in South Africa with 800m Olympic champion Maria Mutola, claimed first spot with an indoor personal best of 4.12mins.

Michael East mirrored Holmes in the men's event as he dominated the field to win in three minutes 47.28 seconds.
