The sprinter, who took 200m bronze in Manchester, said the Games proved Britain was capable host major international sporting events. "I think we should put forward a bid now, after what happened in the Commonwealth Games and how big a success it was," Campbell told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme. "I think we are now ready to put on an Olympic Games." Campbell admitted that plenty of work needed to be done to improve transport links in and around London. But he said the capital could still emulate Sydney - which hosted the hugely successful 2000 Olympics. "I think London can change. (Hosting the Olympics) does change a city," he said. "I've spent a lot of time in Sydney, and before the games were there they had a lot of problems with transport. But the Olympics changed that." Campbell said he did not agree with those who felt the Olympic bid would be an expensive white elephant. "I don't think we would embarrass ourselves," he said. "I think we could handle the amount of people coming in and out of Britain. I think we are ready for it." |
