O'Sullivan tempted by marathon

Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan may follow Paula Radcliffe in attempting a major city marathon this autumn.

Radcliffe will run the Chicago Marathon in October and Irish rival O'Sullivan is considering an offer to run in New York on 3 November.

New York Marathon officials attended the European Championships and held discussions with O'Sullivan, who won two silver medals in Munich.

She competes in the Dublin Marathon in 2000, but it her winning time of 2:35.42 suggesting it was little more than a training run.

Earlier this year, O'Sullivan indicated that her first major city marathon would probably be in London next April.

Pipped for gold

However, she may be tempted into tackling the famous New York course instead.

O'Sullivan plans to spend a fortnight training at altitude in Switzerland later this month before making any firm decision.

Her more immediate target will be Friday's Golden League meeting at Zurich.

O'Sullivan finished a distant second behind Paula Radcliffe in the 10,000m in Munich and was pipped for gold in the final strides of the 5,000m by Spain's Marta Dominguez.

Irishman Mark Carroll has said that he will definitely make his marathon debut in New York.

Carroll, after an injury-affected year, was content with his sixth place in Sunday's men's 5,000m final.
