The world number one in doubles, Suarez made considerable progress in singles last year to the extent that she is now ranked higher than ever. She claimed the third singles title of her nine-year career with victory in Vienna, and made only her second Grand Slam quarter-final appearance at the US Open.
At her happiest on clay, it was the results away from her favourite surface that gave Suarez a rankings boost.
Reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon was very much uncharted territory and the hardcourt season proved even better.
Suarez beat Daniela Hantuchova and Vera Zvonareva on her way to the Toronto semi-finals, and followed that with a place in the last eight of the US Open.
It was in doubles alongside Virginia Ruano Pascual that she truly shone, however.
The pair finished runners-up in the year's first three Grand Slams before winning the US Open and the Tour Championships.
