Keothavong is still going strong in singles and doubles in Luxembourg |
British number two Anne Keothavong enjoyed one of her best wins of the year as she defeated world number 43 Patty Schnyder at the Luxembourg Open. The 27-year-old Briton, ranked 100 places lower than the Swiss player, battled through 7-5 6-2. Keothavong will face Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic in the last eight. She is also still in the doubles with compatriot Sarah Borwell after a 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 13-11 win over Jill Craybas and Sofia Arvidsson on Wednesday. Keothavong has been in good form recently, beating world number 42 Jarmila Groth in Austria earlier this month. "I'm really chuffed," said Keothavong. "Patty's been playing really well the last couple of weeks, she has a lot of experience and is someone I've always looked up to. It's been a tough year, but this is a good win for me - it's nice for my confidence." In other matches in Luxembourg on Thursday, top seed and world number nine Elena Dementieva pulled out of her second-round match against Polona Hercog because of an inflamed right foot. Fourth seed Ana Ivanovic beat Spain's Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-4 6-1, but fifth seed Daniela Hantuchova is out after going down 3-6 6-3 6-1 to Germany's Angelique Kerber.
