 Wozniacki goes into the US Open in confident form |
Dane Caroline Wozniacki continued her impressive build-up to the US Open with victory over Nadia Petrova in the Pilot Pen Championships final in New Haven. Wozniacki, who is top seed at Flushing Meadows with Serena Williams absent, beat Russian Petrova 6-3 3-6 6-3. It was the third consecutive New Haven title for Wozniacki and the second title of the week for the 20-year-old, who won the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Wozniacki reached the US Open final 12 months ago, losing to Kim Clijsters. The Odense-born star will face American Chelsey Gullickson in the opening round of this year's event. In the men's final in New Haven, Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky continued his record of having won every ATP Tour event he has got the to semi-finals of as he beat Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin 3-6 6-3 6-4.
