Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki cruised to victory in the Rogers Cup final with an assured 6-3 6-2 win over Russia's Vera Zvonareva in Montreal. Both players dropped serve early on, before Wozniacki edged decisively ahead with a break in the fourth game. The second seed was equally clinical in the second set, converting break points in third and seventh games while Zvonareva wasted four of her own. Earlier Wozniacki beat Svetlana Kuznetsova in a rain-delayed semi. "After waiting around two days and unable to play I actually felt a little bit tired going out for my first match because mentally you have to be prepared all the time," said Wozniacki.  | 606: DEBATE |
"But I'm so happy, I won two matches and it is a great feeling." The 20-year-old, who lost to Kim Clijsters in last year's US Open final, will immediately head to New Haven for her final warm-up tournament ahead of a return to Flushing Meadows. Her hopes of lifting her first Grand Slam title in the absence of world number one Serena Williams will have been buoyed by her continued good form on a busy day's play. Only hours before disposing of Wimbledon finalist Zvonareva in 74 minutes, she had crushed her compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2 6-3 in the semi-final. The number two seed resumed the match, which she began on Saturday, at 2-0 up in the first set and made short work of the encounter. Zvonareva made her way into the final after Victoria Azarenka retired at 7-6 (8-6) 1-0 down. The Belarussian, who squandered two points t take the first set, was forced to concede the match as he suffered with a blister on her left foot. "It is just one of those things you can't do anything about," said Azarenka. "I tried to deal with it, but I could not continue."
