Rain delays Rogers Cup semi-finals in Montreal

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Caroline Wozniacki
Kuznetsova and Wozniacki put on a brave face as the weather intervened

Rogers Cup organisers will attempt to complete the tournament on Monday after rain wiped out Sunday's scheduled semi-finals and final in Montreal.

World number two Caroline Wozniacki had built a 2-0 lead over Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova before the weather halted the first semi-final on Saturday.

Wimbledon finalist Vera Zvonareva and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus have been unable to start their match.

And a bleak Monday forecast has left the possibility of a Tuesday finish.

If the tournament is not completed on Monday, the WTA said it would reassess the situation consulting with Rogers Cup officials, the players and television about extending it another day.

If the tournament is abandoned, all the remaining players will split the prize money and ranking points.

The last time the WTA was forced to abandon an event was 10 years ago in Scottsdale when Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis were unable to play the final because of rain.
