Robson is going for a second junior Slam title after Wimbledon in 2008

Laura Robson wasted little time in seeing off unseeded American Ester Goldfeld to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open girls' singles.

The 16-year-old Briton, who lost in the quarter-finals of the women's doubles on Wednesday, swept to a 6-1 6-0 win in just 43 minutes on Court 6.

She will next play 17-year-old Kristyna Pliskova after the Czech knocked out top seed Timea Babos.

Robson lost to Russia's Ksenia Pervak in last year's final.

The teenager had only got to bed at 1am after losing her doubles quarter-final alongside Sally Peers against Maria Kirilenko and Agnieszka Radwanska late on Wednesday evening.

But Robson revealed that a lack of sleep had helped her to concentrate the following day.

"One of the reasons I played well is that I knew I was tired from last night and I had to be extra focused," she said.

"The scheduling is what it is, I was never going to complain about it. It's good that I got the win."

Rather than hinder her, Robson said her unexpected run to the last-eight of the doubles had been a boost for her girls' singles matches.

"If anything it's helped me because I feel more comfortable coming in. It's been very helpful," she added.

"Sally played well in the doubles as well so hopefully we can play together again in the future."
