Naomi Cavaday provided Britain's only good news on the second day of Wimbledon qualifying at Roehampton. The Kent 20-year-old, who reached the third round at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham last week, easily defeated Japan's Rika Fujiwara 6-0 6-3. Elsewhere in the first round, Jade Curtis was beaten 6-1 6-3 by Sesil Karatantcheva, Amanda Elliott lost 6-2 6-3 to Neuza Silva. Naomi Broady went down 7-6 (7/5) 6-4 to 10th seed Vitalia Diatchenko. Elizabeth Thomas put up a brave fight against second seed Varvara Lepchenko before succumbing 7-5 6-4, while Emily Webley-Smith was outclassed 6-0 6-1 by Greta Arn. The only British man in action, teenager Daniel Cox, lost 6-3 6-3 to India's Prakash Amritraj in the second round.
