The south west's top tennis player, Cornwall's Jade Curtis, has been forced out of the Barnstaple Open.

The 18-year-old, who is ranked 560 in the world, is ill.

But junior Wimbledon champion Laura Robson will play in the main draw on Wednesday after being given a wild card by the organisers.

Also playing is British number one and top seed Anne Keovathong, who has moved up to number 82 in the world after reaching the last 32 of the US Open.

It means the top three players in Britain, Keothavong, Elena Baltacha and Katie O'Brien will all play in the first round.

Baltacha is seeded fifth and O'Brien sixth.

Qualifying continues on Tuesday, with the top players automatically through to Wednesday's first round.
