Sharapova powers into Qatar final
Maria Sharapova
Sharapova is enjoying a superb run of form in 2008
Fourth seed Maria Sharapova extended her unbeaten run to 13 matches with victory over Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska in the Qatar Open semis.

The Australian Open champion controlled proceedings as she came through 6-4 6-3 to set up a final against her fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva.

Zvonareva fought back to beat Na Li of China in the first semi-final.

Li, who beat third seed Jelena Jankovic in the last eight, looked on course for the final after taking the first set.

But Zvonareva kept her composure and recovered to come through 3-6 6-3 6-3 and reach her second final of 2008, having lost in Hobart in January.

They were followed on court by Sharapova and Radwanska, the 16th seed, with the former overcoming a sluggish start to avenge a defeat at last year's US Open.

"It was a good opportunity for me to play someone who had beaten me," said Sharapova.

"Radwanska played well at the start of the match and I almost went 3-0 down. I had to play good tennis to get it back.

"After a slow start all you want to do is get into the match and get going, and after that I think I did a good job and when things got tough in the end I maintained my focus and fought it out."
