Jamie Murray has told BBC Sport he will team up with Mark Knowles for the men's doubles at the upcoming Madrid Masters.

Knowles, like Murray, is a doubles specialist and has won 46 titles, including three Grand Slams.

Murray said: "It will be very exciting for me, it's a great chance to play with an experienced player."

The partnership is unlikely to be permanent and Knowles, 36, is Murray's fifth partner since he announced his split from America's Eric Butorac.

Although he played with Butorac at the US Open, 21-year-old Murray has also played with his brother Andy as well as James Blake, India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Australia's Jordan Kerr.

But Murray says the opportunity to use Knowles' experience countered the fact he has had to change partners again.

"Mark has played at the top level for a long time and has won Grand Slams," said Murray.

"I haven't had to change partners too much and the guys I have teamed with, with the exception of Bhupathi, have all been people I have played with previously.

"Although it is better to play with the same person all the time in order to form a good team and for continuity, it is not always possible."

Murray is currently 33rd in the ATP doubles rankings. The Madrid Masters starts on 15 October.
