Hingis made her comeback at this tournament last year |
Martina Hingis continued her impressive start to 2007 with a 6-3 6-1 win over Catalina Castano in the Australian Women's Hardcourt Championships. The Swiss, seeded number one, has reached the semi-finals having lost just seven games in three matches.
Hingis will play Tathiana Garbin for a place in the final on the Gold Coast.
The other semi-final will be between second seed Dinara Safina and Shahar Peer of Israel, who beat third seed Ana Ivanovic in three sets.
Fifth seed Peer won 5-7 6-4 6-4 while Safina beat Samantha Stosur, the last Australian in the draw, 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.
Italian Garbin beat Russia's Elena Vesnina 7-5 6-2.
"It's just great semi-finals," said Hingis. "The girls are great to watch, young and willing to work hard. It's some kind of future out there."
