US Open champion Maria Sharapova booked a spot in the last eight of the Generali Ladies event in Linz with victory over Greece's Eleni Daniilidou. The Russian top seed won 7-5 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals for the 13th time in 14 tournaments.
Sharapova will now meet Serbian fifth seed Ana Ivanovic, who dismissed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-2 6-2.
Third seed Patty Schynder also went through but seventh seed Anna Chakvetadze lost to Samantha Stosur.
Swiss player Schynder came from behind to beat France's Nathalie Dechy 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 6-3.
Australian Stosur, who will now play defending champion Nadia Petrova, beat Chakvetadze 6-4 6-4.
Jelena Jankovic of Serbia beat Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-2 and will now face fourth seed Nicole Vaidisova for a place in the semi-finals.
