Mauresmo lifted the trophy for the second time |
Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo won her second title of the year by beating Mary Pierce 6-1 7-6 (7-2) in the Paris Open final. A double break of serve helped top seed Mauresmo take the first set 6-1.
Pierce put up more of a fight in the second set and even had a set point herself, but Mauresmo survived it to take the set 7-2 on a tiebreak.
The world number two won the title for the second time to extend her winning streak to 11 matches.
Afterwards, the Australian Open winner admitted it had taken her a while to get into her stride in the tournament.
"When I came here I was a bit out of shape after the Australian Open," said Mauresmo.
"I took one game after the other and I started to play much better."
