Mauresmo cruises to Paris victory
Amelie Mauresmo
Mauresmo lifted the trophy for the second time
Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo won her second title of the year by beating Mary Pierce 6-1 7-6 (7-2) in the Paris Open final.

A double break of serve helped top seed Mauresmo take the first set 6-1.

Pierce put up more of a fight in the second set and even had a set point herself, but Mauresmo survived it to take the set 7-2 on a tiebreak.

The world number two won the title for the second time to extend her winning streak to 11 matches.

Afterwards, the Australian Open winner admitted it had taken her a while to get into her stride in the tournament.

"When I came here I was a bit out of shape after the Australian Open," said Mauresmo.

"I took one game after the other and I started to play much better."
