Lleyton Hewitt booked his place in the semi-finals of the Masters Cup with a 6-2 6-1 win over Argentine star Gaston Gaudio in Houston. The Australian bounced back from a Thursday loss to world number one Roger Federer behind some superb serving.
Hewitt will face American Andy Roddick in the last four with the second spot in the end-of-year rankings at stake.
Federer will take on Marat Safin in the other semi-final after the Russian defeated Britain's Tim Henman.
Hewitt had Gaudio under pressure throughout, breaking the Argentine to go up 3-1 and again to close out the first set.
In the second a dejected Gaudio was easy prey for Hewitt, who stamped his authority on the contest with an early break to take a 4-1 lead he would not give up.
"Right at the moment I feel up for this event," said Hewitt. "I'm really motivated."
