Andy Roddick set up a quarter-final clash with Tim Henman by overpowering Nicolas Escude 6-3 6-2 at the Indian Wells Masters Series tournament. The American third seed sent down 17 aces and produced 33 winners to crush his French opponent in California.
The result notched up a tour-high 20th victory of the season for the former world number one.
"I feel like I'm in a good groove right now," said Roddick. "I just want to keep it up."
Roddick set up a quarter-final with Henman after the Briton coasted to a 6-1 6-3 win over Australian Wayne Arthurs.
"It's going to be a tough match against Tim," said Roddick. "Tim has shown for years and years and years that he's capable of beating anyone.
"I'm definitely going to have to serve well because he's great at making you play well on your service games.
"If he puts a racket on it, he puts it away."
Also through to the last eight is Georgia's Irakli Labadze, who beat Agustin Calleri 1-6 6-3 6-4.
James Blake beat fellow American Taylor Dent 7-6 (6-4), 4-6, 6-1 to book his passage through to the quarter-finals.
