Tim Henman cruised to a 6-4 6-4 win over Alex Corretja in the Indian Wells Masters Series event third round. The British number one won the first three games and led 4-2 before Corretja broke back in game seven and levelled.
But Henman produced a textbook service game to go 5-4 up and claimed the first set as Correjta missed three forehands.
Henman opened well in the second set to lead 2-0 before Spaniard Corretja hit back to level, but the Briton clinched the win with another break.
Ninth seed Henman told BBC Radio Five Live: "I'm certainly happy to win. It's a long time since I've played Alex and I was very excited about this match.
"In all honesty, there were aspects of my game that I could have done a little bit better.
"But when you win in straight sets it's important to focus on the positive aspects.
"I was competing very well and when I was at the net my volleying was pretty solid."
