British number one Tim Henman swept past Spain's Tommy Robredo to reach round two of the ABN Amro in Rotterdam. Henman came through 7-5 6-2 to set up a meeting with Czech Tomas Cakl, who beat Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman.
"It felt good tonight," said Henman. "It has been a couple of weeks since I played a match and my serving was very consistent.
"This match gives me confidence. I feel happy about the improvements I made. I think this was a good quality match."
The Briton was making his first outing since the disappointing loss to Guillermo Canas at the Australian Open.
Two backhand winners gave him a break in the final game of the opening set.
He then broke the Spaniard again to go 3-1 up in the second set and served out comfortably for his third win in three meetings with Robredo.
Henman is in the same half of the draw as Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt.
