Srichaphan has been struggling with an ankle injury |
Fourth seed Paradorn Srichaphan was a surprise loser in the first round of the ABN Amro event in Rotterdam. The Thai star never recovered from losing the first four games and went down 6-4 6-3 to Nikolay Davydenko.
"I just didn't play well today, I'm really disappointed," said world number 10 Srichaphan.
"I just didn't feel right, I didn't have the energy. I tried hard in the second set, but it was too late to get back into the match."
Dutchman Martin Verkerk, seeded eighth, lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 to Finland's Jarkko Nieminen.
There was better news for the home fans as Raemon Sluiter beat Spain's Alex Corretja 6-4 6-2, while Andrei Pavel of Romania saw off Russian Mikhail Youzhny 4-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-2.
Former French Open champion Albert Costa went through when Switzerland's Ivo Heuberger retired with a shoulder injury, with the Spaniard leading 6-4 3-0.
