Tackling skills report - Man Utd v Oldham

Tackling Skills is a project that gives Foyers residents the chance to work with BBC sports journalists to help develop their literacy and communication skills by using sport to inspire, motivate and re-engage them.

Here's a selection of reports from the Premiership clash between Portsmouth and Aston Villa at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth suffered a humiliating defeat at home ground Fratton Park, by Premiership team Aston Villa.

With a disappointing one goal and only three very near misses from Portsmouth, it just proves that the south coast team, really weren't playing on their best form.

With an unfortunate own goal by Portsmouth captain Arjan De Zeeuw in the 17th minute, Portsmouth knew they would have to dig deep to beat Aston villa.

In an attempt to even the score, in the 22nd minute Patrick Berger rifled a shot towards the goal, unfortunately hitting the post. Two minutes later, Portsmouth was awarded a penalty for a foul on Steve Stone. Portsmouth top goal scorer Aiyegbeni Yakubu converted the penalty.

Aston Villa's super-sub Thomas Hitzlperger was brought onto the field in the 53rd minute, and within 20 minutes he scored what proved to be the winning goal from 18 yards.

In the 80th minute the wind picked up, and the rain started falling, and a superb shot by Aston Villa's Steven Davis from 18 yards forced a tremendous save by Kostas Chalkias, who hadn't had a lot to do during the game.

In the last five minutes, Portsmouth pushed Aston Villa against the wall, and were unlucky not to gain anything further from this game.

Portsmouth were defeated today by Aston villa in a gritty performance.

Portsmouth played well in the first half but lost it in the second half, even when Portsmouth brought out Lua Lua.

The referee Dermot Gallagher had thought Valentines Day had come early this year with giving cards (yellow!) out to Portsmouth's Dejan Stefanovic and Richard Hughes. Villa player Liam Ridgewell was lucky not to be sent off late in the game, when he could have been shown a second yellow card in the second half.

The weather didn't help the players, with cold, strong winds and clouds opening up in the 80th minute, but that didn't stop the supporters cheering their teams along.

Portsmouth should feel somewhat grieved that they did not get anything out of the game, especially with the amount of pressure the Villa defence were under in the last five minutes. Nevertheless, Villa fans will be smiling all the way home up the M6.
