Participants are shown the journalistic ropes

Charlton Athletic, proud of its links with the local community, has embraced the Tackling Skills programme wholeheartedly.

The tie-in kicked off on 25 August when participants watched Charlton defeat Aston Villa 3-0 and over the next two months the youngsters will strengthen links with the club.

At the same time, the budding John Motsons will be shown the journalistic ropes by BBC mentors, learning interviewing and writing skills.

Along the way, participants will interview players at Charlton's training ground and members of the crowd at the Anti Racism fixture against Middlesbrough on 30 October.

They will also write and file a report of that match for the BBC Sport website and be presented with awards and certificates on the pitch during the half-time interval, as well as attend the post-match news conference.

Ben Tegg, Charlton's Community Liaison Officer, explains why the club were so keen to get involved.

"At Charlton we are always looking at new ways to engage with our community. The Tackling Skills project once again provides the club with the opportunity to help local young people develop themselves.

"We always look for ways to engage other departments of the club in community and education work and Tackling Skills has not only been popular with the young people but also with the staff within the communications department.
