How long will Surrey reign supreme?
Surrey captain Adam Hollioake
Surrey clinch their third County Championship in four years after Warwickshire's failure to secure enough points against Lancashire.

How long will they remain at the top of English cricket?

HAVE YOUR SAY

A season that began with the tragic death of Ben Hollioake has ended with his brother Adam captaining Surrey to Championship glory.

They were handed the title without having to play on Saturday after Warwickshire - their only rivals for the championship - failed to secure enough points to be able to catch them.

The result means that Hollioake's go into their final two matches with an unassailable lead, having so far recorded eight wins this summer.

Are Surrey set for a new period of domination?

Surrey are set to dominate for some years. The set-up at The Oval is superb and is light years ahead of the rest. The team is a great blend of experience and talented youth and have amassed championship points aplenty even with as many as five players on international duty.
Ron Searle, Kent, England

Surrey don't just beat teams, they totally demolish them!
Ian Raisbeck, Surrey, England

Surrey clearly have the talent in depth to be a force for some years to come, so long as they can hold on to their talented young players.

As for the Championship being on loan from Yorkshire, I think they'll find it difficult to win it next year from the Second Division!
Matthew Hewitt, England

I have been following Surrey since 1947 (vs. S. Africa) and saw many of their Oval matches between '52 and '57 when they were almost unbeatable. Although they may not have the stars of those years, they certainly make up for it with their depth of reserves and their positive approach to the first-class game.
Paul Robinson, UK

Congratulations to all of the Surrey CC lads and same again next year please.....
Ian Raisbeck, Surrey, England....

Enjoy it while you can, Surrey. The trophy's just on loan from Yorkshire 'til next year!

Warwickshire may come close to them in a couple of seasons
Charles Davies, Britain

If Surrey are not deprived of too many England players and don't suffer too many injuries then I can see them dominating for the next few years.

You cannot compare Surrey with Man Utd though because in football club comes before country every time and Alex Ferguson can pull players out of England games whenever he likes, whereas Keith Medlycott, the Surrey coach is resigned to losing Stewart, Thorpe, Butcher and Tudor etc, for at least half of the season.
John Alston, UK

Warwickshire may come close to them in a couple of seasons if the likes of Knight and Ostler keep getting runs and Bell, Troughton and Wagh play useful knocks too. However, unless they get a more potent bowling attack they'll be nowhere near next season. Good overseas bowlers are required next year for Warwick's possible championship push.
Charles Davies, Britain

Surrey are a very good team, as Essex were in the late 80's and early 90's. A far better comparison would be with football. A year ago, Man Utd were odds-on favourites for the Premiership, but by May this year they finished third.

A good team will remain in the top section of the table, but cannot guarantee to always win it.
Keith, UK

I think Surrey are dominating county cricket like Man Utd dominated in the mid 90s. They have a fantastic skipper in Adam Hollioake, and stars like Mark Butcher and the out-of-sorts Graham Thorpe. My Man of the Year has to go to Saqlain Mushtaq, who has taken crucial wickets and bowled magnificently to guide Surrey to Championship Success.
Osama Jones, England

While the team spirit is there and the youth players keep coming, no one will be able to challenge Surrey
Richard Gordon, England

They are not unstoppable, but the strength of their team makes them extremely difficult to beat. Unfortunately they are a team that that can throw matches away, and like in the semi-final of the C&G can be very poor. As a four day side they are impressive, the second win against Kent proving that even after being outplayed for three days they can still come from behind and win.

However, despite their obvious depth and talent as a one-day side they can still be pretty poor. They will be the side to beat next year in the championship and I expect with two overseas players per side they will not find it quite so easy.
Peter Hardiman, UK

I'd like to think that if Lancashire can find a couple of decent batsmen who post regular large scores, then together with their fiery attack they could start to mount a serious challenge to Surrey. Otherwise, Surrey's reign will continue - not out of particular brilliance of the players, but more out of a lack of consistency of their rivals.
Andrew, Spain

Surrey have shown themselves to be the best county side in the country. They can put all of their success down to the implementation of the Nescafe Youth System, through which lot of their best players have come.

While the team spirit is there and the youth players keep coming, no one will be able to challenge them. Yorkshire have shown that last year was an aberration.
Richard Gordon, England

I can see Surrey's dominance continuing for the next few years at least
John Ngo, UK

Nothing is ever certain, but there is every likelihood that Surrey will continue to dominate county cricket over the next five years.

Most of the current squad will be around for that time, and with highly regarded youngsters like Tim Murtagh, James Benning, Scott Newman and Michael Carberry pushing for first team opportunities, it seems they could go on and on. However, much will depend on Surrey's long-term strategy in terms of keeping their future stars on board.
Marcus Hook, England

Success brings sponsorship. Sponsorship brings cash. Cash brings strength in depth. Strength in depth brings success. Surrey will go from strength to strength.
Bill McQueen, England

It is scary to see the amount of quality in the Surrey team. They are filled with several international players and lots of young players too. They don't seem to have a weakness in the longer form of the game and I can see their dominance continuing for the next few years at least.
John Ngo, UK

As a Surrey Member who now lives in Australia I am delighted to wake up to the great news this morning. The Surrey team and organisation have proved to be the best, with their youth cricket organisation providing young players who are 100% committed to winning.
Ray Jackson, Australia

I don't think there is another county with anything like Surrey's strength in depth. Surrey have coped well without Thorpe, Stewart and Tudor for most of the summer.

At the same time there was Bicknell's broken arm, not to mention the absence of Adam Hollioake for the first part of the season. All of these absences were overshadowed by the biggest of all - Ben Hollioake. The future looks bright with the likes of Rikki Clarke and Scott Newman. Can't see them 'doing a Yorkshire' either!
