Wales finished Plate runners-up at the International Rugby Board Sevens in Wellington after losing to South Africa 26-12 in the consolation final. Newport flanker Craig Hill and Scarlets scrum-half Lee Williams scored for Wales. The South Aficans scored four tries through Renfred Dazel, Paul Delport, Vuyo Zangqa and Frankie Horne. Wales earlier lost 10-7 to Kenya in the quarter-finals of the main Cup event but beat Fiji 14-12 in the Plate semi. On Friday, Wales recorded a historic 28-17 win over hosts New Zealand. The Kiwis had Tomasi Cama sent off after an exchange of blows with Lee Beach early in the game and then had DJ Forbes sin-binned in the first half.  | 606: DEBATE |
Rhodri McAtee, Aled Brew, Tal Selley and Rhys Webb scored tries for Wales. Paul John's side went on to lose 24-15 to Australia, but beat Niue 34-10 to book their quarter-final against Kenya. "It's the first time we have ever beaten New Zealand so that's a fantastic result for us," said Wales manager Dai Jenkins.
