Peel grateful for weekend break
Wales and Scarlets scrum-half Dwayne Peel
Peel says his body needs to refresh after two gruelling Test matches
Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel says he will benefit from missing the Scarlets' Magners League game on Friday.

Coach Gareth Jenkins has sent 15 squad members back for regional and club duty but Peel is one of seven to get time off to recover before facing France.

"Having two weeks between the two games gives the body a chance to recover, particularly after playing two games in six days," Peel told BBC Wales Sport.

"We'll put some hard work in and make sure we'll be ready to face France."

He added: "We've got over a week to put things right because there are areas of the game we definitely need to work on, and I'm sure we'll do that.

"We've got time to work on our game plan and to take a good look at the opposition as well."

I feel sorry for Kev because he's been playing particularly well

Wales have a surprisingly good record against France at Stade de France, having won three of their four visits to Paris.

And despite their opening two defeats by Ireland and Scotland in this season's campaign, Peel believes Wales can bounce back and spoil France's march towards the Grand Slam.

"It's a happy venue for us so the omens are good," said Peel, who played in the 2003 defeat and the 2005 victory.

"It's a massive stadium with a great atmosphere and any player that can't get motivated there can't get motivated anywhere.

"I'm sure the players will be raring to go come a week Saturday. It'll be a tough task but we've got the squad to win there."

Wales will face France without arguably their best player of the campaign so far after Kevin Morgan broke his jaw in the 21-9 defeat by Scotland.

His absence could give Gavin Henson a way back into the side after he was left out of the 22-man squad for the first two games.

Lee Byrne is another possible replacement and his return to action after knee injury for the Ospreys on Saturday will come under close scrutiny.

Morgan missed the entire Six Nations last season because of a dislocated foot and Peel says the players have been devastated by this latest set-back for the Dragons full-back.

"I feel sorry for Kev because he's been an integral part of the squad and has been playing particularly well," said Peel.

"These are the things we have to cope with in international sport.

"We've got depth in the squad and I'm sure whoever the coaches pick will be ready for the game."
