Manu played in the Maori win over the Lions last year |
Llanelli Scarlets have completed the signing of Maori international prop Deacon Manu from Waikato Chiefs. The 27-year-old can play both sides of the scrum, but specialises at tight head where he could be the long-term replacement for veteran John Davies.
"Deacon's a very experienced man, a Maori international who faced the Lions last year," Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher told BBC Sport Wales.
"He has also played a lot of rugby for the Chiefs in Super 12 and Super 14."
The Scarlets boss says there will be more players brought to Stradey Park ahead of next season.
"We're looking for one more three-quarter and a couple of forwards to bolster the squad," he told BBC Sport Wales.
"We're in discussions with some players, but apart from Deacon we don't anticipate any announcements in the near future.
"We are bitterly disappointed about Dafydd Jones' injury after he worked so hard to get back to full fitness.
"The news obviousy means that we will have to look in the transfer market for back-row cover."
