Wales and Llanelli Scarlets flanker Dafydd Jones' shoulder injury will keep him out for six-to-nine months. The blind-side, 26, was ruled out of Wales' tour to Argentina this week when the problem flared up, Jamie Ringer taking his squad place for the trip.
"It looks pretty serious for Daf, he will have an operation next week and return in the new year," said Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher.
Jones, who has 29 caps, has missed most of the last 18 months with injuries.

He has suffered groin, hand and ankle trouble, and now faces a complete shoulder reconstruction.
"We are bitterly disappointed for Daf who has worked so hard to get back to full fitness," said Gallacher.
"The news obviousy means that we will have to look in the transfer market for back-row cover."
The Scarlets have confirmed two pre-season friendlies with Gloucester. They welcome the west country team to Stradey Park on 19 August (1430 BST), before travelling to Kingsholm the following Saturday (1500 BST).
The Llanelli team's ranks have been strengthened by the recruitment of highly rated young full-back Morgan Stoddart.
The 21-year-old, who can also cover centre and fly-half, joins from Pontypridd RFC.
