The Scarlets have found Davies irreplaceable |
Llanelli Scarlets have extended the contract of veteran ex-Wales tight-head prop John Davies for another year. "John has proven once more this year he is an integral member of the squad and deserves another season," said Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher.
The Carmarthen man, 37, is the oldest player in regional rugby, having won the last of his 34 Wales caps in 1998.
The Scarlets have struggled to find a suitable replacement for Davies, who has been at Stradey Park seven years.
Numerous names have been linked with the region in recent years, the latest being former Wales and Lions prop Darren Morris.
He said he was in discussions with the Scarlets before agreeing a switch from Leicester to Worcester.
Davies came to Llanelli from Richmond, having previously distinguished himself in Neath's great team of the early '90s.
