The home side got off to the perfect start when Stefan Terblanche crashed over only for Mark Van Gisbergen to hit back with a penalty for the visitors.

Wasps went ahead with a Ben Gotting try but the Ospreys reclaimed the lead through flanker Alan Wyn-Jones.

Van Gisbergen added another penalty before Stuart Abbott crossed and Wasps were able to hang on after the break.

Over 18,000 fans turned out at the Ospreys' new stadium, which they are sharing with Swansea City Football Club.

Ospreys coach Lyn Jones said he was pleased with his side's performance, especially considering they were missing seven internationals.

"It was a physical and very quick in the first half and I'm pleased with the way we stuck together and kept our shape," Jones told BBC Wales Sport.

"A couple of things came off which was nice. Obviously in the second half it became difficult with a lot of injuries and as we blooded in some young players."
