Beattie splits from Dragons
Ross Beattie
Scotland backrow forward Ross Beattie has left the Newport Gwent Dragons "by mutual agreement".

Beattie arrived at Rodney Parade from Bristol Shoguns in August 2003, but has struggled to win a regular place.

Dragons chief executive Andy Marinos said: "Ross has been a valued member of the squad and holds strong international aspirations.

"He felt that the limited opportunities he was receiving with The Dragons was hampering those ambitions."

Marinos confirmed that Beattie asked to be released early from his contract, which the Dragons granted.

It is not yet clear which rugby team Beattie will be joining, although any of the three Scottish pro-teams - Edinburgh, Glasgow and Borders - would seem the most likely destination.
